Calling Advanced Leader Bronze Toastmasters…

Are you on track to complete your Advanced Leader Silver designation?  Do you still need to be a club coach, sponsor or mentor?

We have clubs all around the division that would like to have at least one coach, and even better, they’d like to have two!  If you have a desire to take your leadership and mentoring skills to the next level, let me know.

Send an email to divb@d42tm.org  with the subject CLUB COACH.

NOVEMBER IS MENTEMBER! in Area 4

You may have heard about Movember which is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health.

Mentember is Area 4’s version of raising awareness of the benefits of mentors and mentees.  A fun way to contribute to the health of your club.

Area 4 club’s have a solid membership base of experienced Toastmasters. Whether that base be six or fifteen members. These are members who have benefited from the Toastmaster program.  Members who have learned the ropes. Members who truly believe in continuously developing their communication and leadership skills through the active participation of Toastmasters.

Yearly, our club members also recruit a large contingent of new members.

All club members, whether a 11 year members, like me, or a new club member of just two weeks, want to get value for their money, value for the time they devote to Toastmasters.

Matching experienced members with newer members is big way to add value to all Toastmasters experiences. A study, by “Information Development and Training Inc.”  was done on mentoring in rural Manitoba where it was shown that “individuals who have mentors achieve their goals faster and stay longer in organizations.”

The Mentember Contest is being presented as a way to help your club members participate in membership growth and membership retention. To encourage mentor and mentee relationships in each club.  To keep your club healthy.

Complete details on how you can qualify to send in an entry is in the attached document.

I will be waiting for your email entries throughout November.

Make November a mentebulous Mentember!

October Dues Renewal

It’s that time of year again…. dues renewals.  Club Officers, please ensure that your clubs are collecting dues from members and submitting them to Toastmasters International.

This is important for a number of reasons:

  • On time dues and membership renewal reports give your club 1/2 of a point towards the Distinguished Club Program (#10).  If your club submitted its officer list on time (by June 30), then your club just got one point.  That was easy!
  • On time dues renewal for at least six members means that your club is in good standing.
  • On time dues renewal for any Humorous and Table Topics contestants means that the contestants are in good standing and eligible for club, area, division and district contests.
  • Extra Incentive:  Clubs that pay dues before October 1st are eligible for the District 42 Scary and Taxing Promotion.  All eligible clubs will be entered to a prize draw that will be made at the Fall Conference in Lethbridge.  Last year Wild Oats won gift certificates for the Toastmasters store.

Thanks to those clubs that have already submitted dues.

If you have any questions, please contact your Area Governor.

Building Strong Clubs

We are trying something new in Division B – we have a membership assistant this year.  The membership assistant will work with clubs who are in need of help when it comes to membership.  If your club is in need of a club coach, she will help to find you one (or two).  If you wish to become a club coach (and one of the requirements of your ALS is to become a club coach, mentor or sponsor), please get in touch with her as she would be happy to try to pair you up with a club in need of a coach.  Or perhaps you just want some ideas for building membership, please get in touch with her.  Her name is Cathy Morrell and you can reach her via e-mail at cathymorrell@gmail.com.   We want to have a strong Division with many strong clubs.  Let’s work together to make it happen.
